Father and son team Romi and Mak Ubhi had a pharmacy located on a secondary parade for two decades. A nearby local church was sold and in its place plans for a new medical health centre was approved. The Ubhi family bid for the pharmacy in the health centre and were awarded the contract.
After having built up a local reputation and tirelessly serving the community the family were ready to move onto the next chapter after securing the new site. BSB Pharmacy would serve a busy health centre with 11 GPs based in the practice. The pharmacy service would be a heavy dispensing function serving the surgery patients and walk-ins.
The Ubhi family decided to appoint an established pharmacy shop fitting company that had experience of fitting pharmacies in health centres. The client was also impressed with Rapeed Design's pharmacy fit out and quality of work. They took the time to visit two pharmacies we had previously fitted out, which is something we always recommend with all new clients.
BSB Pharmacy is placed within a purpose built medical practice, so it was vital to ensure the pharmacy space was future proofed in its design and functionality. With pharmacy changing towards a more service led approach and pressures on GPs the design had to suit all and be viable for the pharmacy business.
The brief for this pharmacy design and shop fit out was to create a clean, classic and professional look. With two entrances into the pharmacy -one from the surgery and an entrance from the street - meant that the counter had to be a key focal point for customers and patients walking in. It was clear from the outset that the Ubhi family were keen on having an open and inviting design that would increase opportunity for interaction between the customer and pharmacists.
The space was ample but the flow and function of the dispensary was key to BSB Pharmacy as it would have a heavy dispensing function. Within the newly built site a 45 square metre dispensary was installed, an office space, store room, a fully DDA and GPhC compliant consultation room, a staff room, a staff toilet and a patient toilet were fitted in. A DDA grade bespoke counter has been kept simple and centrally located with adequate space for stocking and displaying all OTC sales.
The design touches include floating ceiling features and hanging pendent lights. To add to the comfort factor the family were keen to take up Rapeed Design's recommendation for the sports cushion flooring, which helps with joints fatigue for professions that are required to be on their feet for long hours.
On this pharmacy design the Ubhi family decided that functionality and comfort for all staff was key. The family spend most of their time at the pharmacy on day to day basis. The final design created with our team demonstrates this and highlights how Rapeed Design's knowledge of materials, fixtures and fittings makes all the difference.
We always ensure that each client receives a level of involvement in the final design and for BSB Pharmacy Romi Ubhi was instrumental in the branding and colour scheme combinations. Our design team was able to assist by creating 3D drawings and bring together the client's ideas on paper and then bring it to life.
Mr. Ubhi says, 'We are really happy. We have had customers walk in and say this is the best pharmacy they have been to, which is really satisfying for us'.
