Client Background
A high street pharmacy located in a busy area required a pharmacy design and shopfit. An average pharmacy space in the UK is approx. 70 square metres, so when Hasmukh Patel contacted Rapeed Design he already knew that Bishops Pharmacy would require an extension along with some minor building works to make the business viable.
Points of note
Taking up the vision, design and build package our team was able to work on this pharmacy project by offering a comprehensive service. An extension was built to make space for a larger functioning dispensary, a full strip out of the existing space had to take place and the pharmacy had to keep functioning - how can this be possible?
It wasn't easy, but with the right advice, guidance, planning and project management Rapeed Design was able to keep the pharmacy trading as usual. 'It's been hard like with any building site, while the refit was happening,' said Mr Patel.
While carrying out the extension of the pharmacy the building team found that the garden was collapsing into the pharmacy building itself. The team was able to act fast and underpinning of the garden and putting in a retaining wall was built into the project timeline.
The new pharmacy design and fit out has really helped to create good atmosphere for the staff, patient users and customers. Mr Patel's daughter who is also a pharmacist and a key decision maker during the pharmacy design and pharmacy fit out adds, 'It's turned out really well. The colour scheme, it looks bigger compared to how it was. It's brighter, more open plan and cleaner.'
Having been in the area as the local pharmacist for more than 30 years the change in demographics and services meant that Mr Patel had to make an informed choice about which shop fitting company would best serve his business and be able to understand his vision.
Rapeed Design was awarded the contract because we are able to offer all aspects of a pharmacy design, build and fit out package. The team was able to handle all planning services, the additional planning applications and approvals for the conservation area and building regulations.
Prior to the extension, the pharmacy was 50 square metres and after the pharmacy fit out the size increased to 70 square metres plus the addition of the DDA compliant consultation room allowed for more services to be offered.
We worked closely with the father and daughter team at Bishops Pharmacy to help them realise their vision for their pharmacy business. We provided several colour schemes and finishing ideas giving the Patel family options to choose from and then we were then able to implement these into the final design.
